Singing
I started singing because of the musical. While rehearsing in the theater, I was interested in singing, so I began taking a class with a vocal teacher. She was also a director of musicals, so she helped me a lot with musical singing.
Learning and being careful to get things right now gives me confidence and helps me know what is right and how to improve it. Additionally, singing is enjoyable because it is a skill I know well and keep doing. It is also something I am proud of, and by doing that, I am confident in singing, making me want to dive deeper and learn more.
For example, there was a time when I was invited as a guest to sing a song in a musical. I was very excited and happy, and I practiced hard. Since the song wasn’t in Mandarin, it was challenging. What I did was use Chinese words to mimic the sound of the words in Cantonese and sang them with the demo again and again. At the show, I could perform the song nicely and accurately. Through this experience, I have learned a lot from the people on the show.
